Christy Park on Rocky Neck …

Don’t miss the Artist in Residence Studio on Rocky Neck. We attended Ruth Mordecia’s show last week and are looking forward to seeing Christy Park’s work July 10 – 16. Her opening reception is Saturday 7/11 from 4-6PM at 51 Rocky Neck Ave. Gloucester.

Gallery reception …

Got an email from our potter friend Cynthia Curtis that The Rocky Neck Gallery is having a reception this weekend. It’s tomorrow (Saturday) 5/30/09 from 5 – 8 and the address is 53 Rocky Neck Ave. See you there.

Play like you mean it…

My friend Melody shared this with us. It’s great …

Sigrid Olsen …

Some of us know her work, some don’t. And some are neighbors because she’s here on Cape Ann. If you’re interested, see the video of what she’s doing now.

Ships on Pleasant St. …

I was out walking Spike this AM and noticed a new gallery on Pleasant St. called the American Marine Model Gallery. I loved building ships as a kid but these are the real thing. Can’t wait to stop by when it’s open.

Tradional oils are my favorite.

My friend Ken Knowles finally got himself a computer, email address and website to display his work. His studio is in Rockport. Great stuff. Click here to see his online gallery.

Laurel Hughes exhibition

Patty, Cathy and I went over the bridge and “up the line” to Boston Saturday PM. A friend, Laurel Hughes, is a Manchester artist and had a show opening at the Nielsen Gallery on Newbury St. Frustrated artists that we are, we decided to take a ride and it was well worth the trip. Her works are immense and emotional. Not well versed in “abstraction”, I’m at a loss to describe them, but, suffice to say that I was moved to find out more.

We also had a really nice meal in the Colonnade Hotel at Brasserie Jo. It was 5PM on “symphony night” so the dining room was filled. The people watching (as well as dinner) was superb.
Nice to go “off island” once in a while. But only in winter. :)

Melody The Artist: Light of Thanksgiving

Our friend Melody Phaneuf is a painter and teacher. (Or is it the other way around?) She lives here in Gloucester and has her studio at the Fenway Studios Cooperative in Boston. I’ve learned a lot from her and the books she’s lent me. We’re also fortunate enough to own one of her works, Christmas in Rockport (see the photo). Check out her blog Melody The Artist: Light of Thanksgiving . kenny
