Flags on the Boulevard …

Memorial Day and flags mean memories, thanks and summer time. The signal here in Gloucester MA is when the flags go up on the Boulevard. The dogs and I caught video this AM on our way back from Ravenswood.

C.B. Fisk organ builders

We’re lucky to have so many artists here on Cape Ann. And lucky to have artists working in different media. The craftspeople at C.B. Fisk have been designing and building concert hall organs for about 50 years. From scratch. Ingots of lead turn into pipes, lumber into keyboards and cabinets. It’s an amazing process. You can view the transformation at their open house Saturday June 12 right at the shop: 21 Kondelin Rd. Gloucester MA 01930. Good Morning Gloucester has some video, too.

The Music Man at Gloucester High

“Trouble right here in River City. Trouble. That starts with “t” that rhymes with “p” and that stands for POOL!”
Good way to get in shape for parade season. June 4th, 5th and 6th at the GHS Putney Auditorium.

Helicopter at Gloucester High

Gloucester High’s own JROTC won another drill competition and, as a result, got a one in a lifetime visit from the Marine’s CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter. Patty was out walkin’ the dogs and caught the players on video. She has all the fun.

Inside the belly …

… of the beast known here in Gloucester MA as “the cut bridge”. This riveting video shows the Blynman Bridge Master at his controls and an actual “opening” on a cold day in December. If you like “behind the scenes”, it doesn’t get much better.

Take me out to the … parade

Ohhhh to be a kid again. Today’s Little League Parade went down Stacey Boulevard and right over the Cut Bridge. I was out back digging, getting the tomato garden ready and heard ‘em comin’. Sorry I missed the first couple of fire engines. But you can still hear the drummers, see the kids and the trophy’s in the video.

Edith, Jason and Chad took me shoeing for the weekend. We also had a cookout and sleepover. Great fun. See the video. BTW we spent the night at the new Kinsman Pond Shelter. Thank you AMC. Very chi chi.

Buy art for Christmas …

Friday night we (Patty, our accomplished artist friend Melody Phaneuf and I) went out “gallery crawling” in Manchester MA at the Central Street Gallery and then to the PN Sullivan Studio in E. Gloucester. While in Manchester we got to yak with gallery director Alison Rowell and several of the artists including Richard Giedd. The works on display are all “small works” worthy of a good look.

Patti Sullivan and her friend Tracey Martin Logan (formerly of Gloucester, now of ME) had many works on display at Patti’s PN Sullivan Studio. (I found Tracey’s crucifixes to be hypnotic.) We own one of Patti’s Cuba pieces and love seeing all her “day in the life” works. (Look for the small dogs.) Don’t wait for another show to stop by. Patti’s there by appointment and “by chance” so drop in to her studio at 235 E. Main St. Gloucester MA.

Fish Box Derby …

Gloucester’s version of the classic Soap Box Derby is the Fish Box Derby. The hill on Roger’s St. yesterday was covered with spectators, hay bales, sponsor cards and racers for the 15th time. And the weather was stunning (thanks to Mayor Kirk!) as always.

There are no entrance fees as charitable donations from individuals, businesses and local organizations cover all the expenses. Not to mention the 2 – $1,000 scholarships that any racer is eligible for. What a great way to build something with your kids and then race it down a hill in the middle of the street. (Isn’t that what we ALL did before video games?!? Ahhhh to be a kid again.) BTW here are the Fish Box Derby results. And here’s some video …
